Paramount Coffee Project

At a glance

 Get:
  • Crab Po Boy ($18)
  • Philly Cheese Steak ($15)
  • Coffee ($4.00) - Great Coffee!
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly Milkshake ($8)
Skip:
  • Don't bother adding the "Chips & Pickles" when they ask ($3) extra for a small serving of regular tasting potato crisps and some pickles
Disappoint:
  •  The service was average on the day we went.. also expect a wait for tables on weekends

Paramount Coffee Project is a relatively new addition to the Surry Hills cafe scene which is located in the old atrium of the Paramount Pictures office in Surry Hills. The building pretty damn cool, if you end up having to wait for a table (which often happens on weekends) then you can always have a wonder around the building and have a look at some of the cool fixtures (like Tokyo Bike and Pop Plant)  which share the same atrium space as Paramount Coffee Project.

We ended up at The Paramount Coffee Project for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon, after waiting/wondering around the atrium for around 20 minutes we finally managed to get a table and start ordering some food.

Expect to line up on weekends to grab some coffee and food

And after waiting a further 40 minutes (as a result of the waitress losing our order) the food finally arrived! I was slightly annoyed at the waitress who didn't seem to care and didn't apologise or acknowledge their  mistake (frustrating!). It is understandable that they are very busy and I don't mind waiting, however an apology would have been nice.

The experience was kind of saved by the guy doing the cold drip coffee. He followed up our order and offered to make us a free cold drip coffee while we waited for food, what a champion!

After hearing about the famous Crab Po Boy we decided to give it a go and see if it lived up to the hype. And it certainly did, the bun was sweet and soft and the crab was  crispy and full of that awesome crabby flavour without being oily, the ranch slaw went well with all the flavours of the burger. It did come in at $18 which is a little pricey, but well worth it. especially if you are a fan of soft shell crab.

We also got the Philly Cheese Steak which was excellent. The beef was nice and tender and not overcooked and the pickles, aoili and Gruyere added a nice hit of flavour on the sourdough bread.
Philly Cheese Steak was so good!
I also got a cappuccino which was awesome! It had a great strong coffee flavour while still being nice and creamy, definitely one of the best I  have had in Sydney so far. If you go to Paramount Coffee Project then you cannot go past the coffee!

The best coffee in Sydney?
Finally we decided to try the peanut butter & jelly milkshake which was amazing! It basically tasted like a peanut buttercup in a cold milkshake form. I recommend trying out the PB&J milkshake it was amazing.

Overall the experience was pleasant even though we had to wait due to our order getting lost into the ether. The food is good and the coffee and milkshake was awesome!

I will be back to try out a few more items on the menu, hopefully the service is better next time!
